If you involved in Christian social action then you know that time away from the front line is precious. You can’t afford to go to conferences which are disorganised or cynical or which are not going to inspire and encourage you.
I am slightly biased because I used to work there but I have no doubt in recommending Livability’s Community Mission retreat at the beautiful Hothorpe Hall. I think it’s the best conference going for any Christian social activist. You will get to spend three days with brilliant people, getting great teaching, whilst having fun and eating quality food into the bargain!
The main speaker, is Dave Andrews and the theme is ‘Love Thy Neighbourhood’ Dave is a Christian community worker, currently based in Australia but with many years in India’s slum communities. He has authored several books on community development, notably ‘Not Religion but Love’, ‘Compassionate Community Work’ and ‘Plan Be’. His current work is with a community initiative he started called The Waiters Union. If you want to be inspired come and learn from someone whose life speaks even more eloquently than his words. If Dave’s name is new to you, you can whet your appetite by reading more about his ministry and watching him in action.
